Eugene's passion in painting is focused on "Cultural and Spiritual" art. He first became interested in art at the age of eight when he started by drawing sketches of horses, animals, and landscapes. At the age of thirteen he began painting and has never stopped since then.

To show appreciation to his grandfather and in an effort to preserve the history of his Nakoda Sioux (Stoney) Culture, Eugene applies his "Gift" of painting stories on canvas for future generations to enjoy.

Because of his artwork, he traveled nationally and internationally to countries such as Europe, South America, and the United States where some of his paintings were sold. In addition, some of the paintings are displayed locally at the Yellowhead Tribal College, Confederacy of Treaty Six Office, Alexis First Nations School, Hall and the Multi-Center.

Eugene's other interest includes round dance singing and making songs taught by his late father Logan Alexis. The "Logan Alexis Singers" won a national award from the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for the Best Traditional Album: Historical (2001) for "Round dance Time".

He enjoys traveling to other First Nation communities attending round dances, spiritual and social functions with his family. He is also a well known master of ceremonies at various social events.

In closing, Eugene is a full time Stoney Language Instructor at the Alexis First Nation School helping to maintain the culture, spirituality, and language in the community.
